We all have heard it: We need to digitalize in order to win in the future. If we are not digital enough, we will be left behind by our competitors and our consumers. If we are not digital enough, competing will become difficult — if not impossible.
We have to digitalize.
However, one thing that these “digital transformation” gurus don’t tell us is that it costs a lot of money and resources to digitalize.
Digitalization requires careful, meticulous planning — and investing. But more importantly, it requires clear, agreed-upon definitions of what success should look like.
Simply saying it over and over again — that “we have to be digital, we will be digital, we will be digitalized, we will transform” — won’t cut it. Those rah-rah words don’t mean a thing when the rubber meets the road, when reality sets in.
So.
Don’t take digital transformation lightly.
Please. For all our sanity’s sake.
