Movies are back!

After having been away for more than 18 months, cinema halls are finally open again — albeit with some restrictions and limitations. (Only vaccinated people can come and watch movies. And one has got to fill up contact-tracing forms in order to enter the halls. And there are two seats in between moviegoers — which I think is not really a problem since I go to the movies alone.)

I am so excited about this since I’ve been missing the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So I went on to watch the ETERNALS — I was not that disappointed. I liked the pace of the storytelling and I went away with an impression that at least, my time spent with the movie was not wasted. I cannot wait for the next one.

I also went to watch SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS. I also liked the story. And as an Asian of Chinese descent, I am so happy to finally see a superhero who looks like me. I am also looking forward to more of Shang Chi in the future.

I did miss BLACK WIDOW. The movie halls are no longer showing it. So I guess I have to wait for Disney+ to be released in the country in order for me to watch it.

Yes. Disney+ is not yet launched here.

Which leads me to wonder: What are the decision points being considered by Disney+ to launch or not launch in a country?

Last I checked, Netflix, Discovery+, HBO, and Paramount are already available locally to capitalize on a potential market of more than 100 million individuals. Penetration of Netflix in urban areas is also quite high — GWI.com reports that at least 38.7% of the online population actually watch Netflix at least once a week. So that points to a potential market of at least 38 million people willing to pay for their streaming video entertainment.

Oh well.

Whatever their considerations are, I hope Disney+ comes soon. I really would like to watch the rest of the Marvel Universe — Wandavision, Loki, Hawkeye, and Winter Soldier are waiting for me, I am sure. 🙂

Till next time.
